If you have a large greenhouse in your garden, grow lights are a must! Especially in winter and spring, grow lights can help you grow a lawn, different types of vegetables and fruit, plants, etc. However, grow lights are high-current consumers, which increases the chance of a power failure if you add grow lights to an existing group in the meter cupboard. In this case, the group becomes overloaded, which also means that other devices in the group no longer have power. Therefore, replace a group box with a model with more groups if you want to use grow lights. Incidentally, this does not only apply to grow lights, for example, a jacuzzi or electric cooking, it is also necessary to further expand the existing group box. A certified electrician can help you with this!
Importance of expanding a distribution box
In a distribution box, the supplied power is distributed over different parts of your home. For example, many homes have a group for the living room, a separate group for the bathroom and bedroom and, for example, another group for the kitchen and garage. When too many devices are connected to a certain group at the same time, the group cannot supply sufficient power. In such a situation, the group will become overloaded and fail. Fortunately, it is relatively easy to prevent such a situation by replacing your meter box or adding new groups.
A meter cupboard with more groups is able to better distribute the supplied power. By keeping the power consumption per group more or less the same, overload will not occur again quickly. If you want to connect a high-current consumer, such as the aforementioned grow lights or jacuzzi, to the meter cupboard, do this on a separate group. This way, this group will be less likely to become overloaded. If this does happen, only the grow lights will go out, but you will still have electricity elsewhere in the house!
