In the past, indoor growers generally used high pressure sodium lamps, such as HPS lamps. However, there are now many alternatives on the market, each with their own advantages.

TL

TL lighting is available in every hardware store and comes in different shapes and colors. The color temperature you should choose depends on the function of the lamp. If you want a growth lamp, go for color 865 or 840. If you want a flowering lamp, go for 827 or 830.

The last two numbers are for the color temperature. For example: 840 is 4000 degrees Kelvin and 830 is 3000 degrees Kelvin. Flowering works best at a color temperature between 2100 and 2700 Kelvin.

With TL lighting you get the same yield as with HPS lamps. However, you can hang TL lamps closer above the plants, up to 10cm. In addition, the light distribution is better, which makes the plants grow better.

LED

LED lighting has been developed further and further, which is why there is now LED lighting on the market that performs very well. LED lighting for the grow box contains a built-in clock with which you can set the time. This allows you to automatically adjust the light throughout the day. You do not necessarily have to buy a separate growth or flowering lamp. In addition, there is a fan that blows the heat away from the lamp to keep it cool.

LED lighting has the great advantage that it uses less energy and is therefore more economical. In addition, this lighting is also safer than HPS lamps. It is also easy to connect and the lighting does not require a ballast. LED lighting can also be hung closer to plants than an HPS lamp , namely at a maximum distance of 10 cm. LED lighting is therefore perfect for small growing spaces, such as in a growing cabinet.

Plasma

Plasma lamps are more powerful than LED lighting and fluorescent lighting, but therefore also much more expensive. This light comes closest to real sunlight.

Induction

Induction grow lights provide a relatively larger luminous flux than fluorescent lighting, have a longer lifespan (60,000 burning hours) and have a perfectly adjusted color temperature. Induction lights can be purchased in various wattages. These lights hardly get warm, allowing you to hang them very close to your plants.
