Alternative grow lights for different applications
Besides LED, HPS and CMH, there are other lighting technologies that can be interesting for specific applications within plant cultivation. In this collection, you will find, among others, induction grow lights, CFL energy-saving lamps and Sulphur Plasma lighting.
These technologies differ greatly in power, spectrum and application. From compact lighting for cuttings and mother plants to powerful systems for larger cultivation areas: the right choice depends primarily on the growth stage, the area and the desired light intensity.
Induction grow lights
Induction lighting works without conventional electrodes in the light source. As a result, the technology is known for its long lifespan and stable light output. Induction grow lights are available in different power ratings and light colors and can therefore be used for a wide range of applications.
Within our range, you will find compact induction lamps for, among other things, cuttings and mother plants, as well as more powerful versions for larger surfaces.
Induction Grow and Bloom
With induction grow lighting, you can choose between Grow and Bloom versions. Grow lamps produce cooler light with relatively more blue and are tailored to vegetative growth. Bloom lamps have a warmer light color with relatively more red and therefore align better with the flowering phase.
The color temperature is expressed in Kelvin (K). A Grow version of, for example, 6500K produces significantly cooler light than a Bloom lamp of approximately 2500K to 2700K.
What power induction lamp do you need?
The required power depends on the application and the area to be illuminated. A compact induction lamp can be used for cuttings, young plants or mother plants, while higher power versions are suitable when a larger area or higher light intensity is required.
Therefore, do not look only at the wattage, but also at the spectrum, light distribution and the application for which the lamp was developed.
CFL grow lights and energy-saving lamps
CFL stands for Compact Fluorescent Lamp. These energy-saving lamps are available with different light spectra and can be used as plant lighting for smaller cultivation areas.
In our range, you will find 200W CFL grow lights for both growth and flowering. The Grow version puts more emphasis on the cooler part of the spectrum, while the Bloom version produces warmer light.
CFL can be interesting for smaller grow rooms, cuttings, young plants and other situations where a very high light intensity is not required. For larger areas or light-intensive plants, more powerful lighting systems are generally more suitable.
Sulphur Plasma grow lighting
Sulphur Plasma is a special lighting technology in which sulfur is used to produce a very broad light spectrum. Unlike many conventional gas discharge lamps, the light is generated without traditional electrodes in the light source.
An important characteristic of Sulphur Plasma is the broad spectral distribution. This makes this technology interesting for applications where light quality and a broad spectrum are central.
Within our range, you will find a powerful 1000W Sulphur Plasma system. Due to the high power, this type of lighting is primarily intended for larger and professional applications where sufficient space, ventilation and temperature control are available.
Which grow light fits your application?
The various technologies in this collection each have their own area of application.
Induction grow lightsare interesting when a long lifespan, stable light output and the choice between different Grow and Bloom spectra are important. Because of the different power ratings, they can be used for both smaller and larger applications.
CFL grow lightsare particularly suitable for compact grow rooms and applications where limited light intensity is sufficient. With separate Grow and Bloom versions, you can tailor the spectrum to the growth stage.
Sulphur Plasmais a specialized solution for those seeking a powerful light source with a very broad spectrum. The high power makes this technology particularly suitable for larger applications.
Alternative grow lights or LED, HPS and CMH?
Which lighting technology fits best depends on your application. Modern LED grow lights offer high energy efficiency, a long lifespan and relatively low heat production. For most new grow setups, LED is therefore a logical choice nowadays.
HPS grow lights offer high light intensity and relatively low purchase costs, while CMH grow lights combine the characteristics of gas discharge lighting with a broad spectrum and good color rendering.
Induction, CFL and Sulphur Plasma can be interesting when you are specifically looking for the characteristics or the spectrum of these technologies.
Therefore, also view our LED grow lights, HPS grow lightsand CMH grow lightsto compare the different possibilities.
What should you pay attention to when choosing alternative grow lighting?
Growth or flowering
Check which spectrum the lamp produces and for which growth stage it is intended. With induction and CFL, for example, you can choose between separate Grow and Bloom versions.
Power and cultivation area
More watts does not automatically mean that a lamp fits your application better. Match the power to the cultivation area, the light requirements of the plants and the available hanging height.
Spectrum and color temperature
The color temperature gives an indication of the visible light color. Cooler light is widely used during vegetative growth, while warmer light generally fits the flowering phase better. Also, look at the full spectrum of the lamp when data is available about this.
Heat and ventilation
Every grow light produces heat. How much this is varies per technology and power. Therefore, always ensure sufficient air circulation and take into account the distance between the light source and the crop.
