Houd warmte binnen en insecten buiten de kas!

Growing plants and flowers in a greenhouse is a perfect way. However, there are a number of things that are very important to have in order in your greenhouse. Here are two tips that can help you to maintain your greenhouse in an efficient way.

Temperature

Here in the Netherlands we have a pleasantly temperate climate. This means that we do not have to deal with very severe frost or extremely high tropical temperatures. This is nice, but it does mean that some plants and flowers do not occur in their natural environment here in the Netherlands. For example, the flora in the tropics in Africa has a completely different character than we are used to in the Netherlands, thanks to the tropical temperatures there.

A greenhouse makes it possible to create a completely different climate in which these plants and flowers can be grown. However, it is very important to keep the temperature in the greenhouse constant. Strip curtains can offer a good solution for this. They can seal the space airtight from the outside world and thus maintain a constant temperature in the greenhouse. This without hindering easy entry and exit between any different climate zones within the greenhouse.

An additional advantage here is that the energy costs will be lower because a constant temperature is maintained inside the greenhouse because the strips close immediately behind you when you enter and leave the greenhouse. This means that the heating elements do not have to do any extra work to maintain the temperature inside the greenhouse.

Insects

However, temperature is not the only factor that can get in the way of growing plants and flowers. Another potentially persistent problem with this cultivation is insects. Insects are attracted to certain types of plants and flowers that can cause considerable damage to these plants and flowers. For example, the plants and flowers in bloom can be eaten bare by insects and they can transmit certain diseases. This means that you run the risk that all your hard work in the greenhouse has been for nothing.

In principle, there are now sufficient insecticides available that make it possible to kill insects. However, these agents can be very harmful to the environment. This is why it is better to prevent the problem than to cure it! Strip curtains can also be an ideal option for keeping insects out of the greenhouse. This is because they provide a hermetic seal that makes it possible to keep the scent of the cultivated flowers and plants inside the greenhouse and thus the insects outside.
