Recently, the assortment on Kweekverlichting.nl has been expanded a lot. We often get the question; Which lamp should I choose? That is why we have a short explanation of all types of lamps and what you can best use them for. In addition, we also discuss a number of frequently asked questions about this subject. Please note that these are general tips. Every cultivation is different and of course there are many more important factors besides lighting.
HPS grow lights
If your cultivation is purely focused on achieving a high yield, HPS lamps are still the best choice for flowering. However, the power consumption of this lamp is often very high, which is why more and more growers are switching to LED. In addition, the term of your cultivation is of course important. HPS cultivation lamps are often cheaper but do not last as long. For short-term cultivation, HPS is therefore very interesting. If you have a long-term cultivation, we recommend more energy-efficient lamps.
Why don't I need a reflector with the HPS lamps?
It is usually recommended to use a reflector with HPS lamps. However, this is not the case with the HPS lamps in our range, they already have an internal reflector so that the light is optimally distributed.
Induction grow lights
The HPS lamps are very interesting because they are actually between the HPS and LED lamps in terms of power consumption and light output. The light temperature can be adjusted very well with these induction lamps, which makes the yield optimal. For growth, 6500K induction lamps are used and for flowering, warm 2100K lamps.
Be sure to use a reflector with induction lamps.
With induction lamps it is best to use a reflector for an optimal effect.
LED grow lights
The most efficient lamps are no longer just the HPS lamps. The latest generation of LED grow lamps is not only more economical but also has a high light output due to the use of powerful 3W LEDs. The prices of LED grow lamps are however a lot higher. That is why these lamps are especially interesting if you are going to grow more often or have plants that have to grow for a very long time.
How many WATT LED lamp do I need to replace 400W HPS?
For this we recommend a 200W spectrabox. A 250W spectrabox is also possible but the light output will of course be slightly less. The led UFO lamps and growspots are mainly suitable for growing a few plants in a small grow tent.
Is LED also good for flowering or only for growth?
For a few years now, there have also been LED grow lights that are good for the flowering of plants. This used to be a problem, which made growers somewhat sceptical. However, the old grow lights made too little use of the different light colours that are needed in flowering. The Spectrabox Gold, for example, has 8 light colours and can be set specifically for the flowering phase. Very good flowering results have been achieved with this.
How do I get my investment back?
If you have a long-term project, you can easily earn back the investment in LED grow lights. Of course, you save the most due to the lower power consumption. The lifespan is also very important. LED grow lights last up to ten times longer than HPS. In addition, the lights become less warm, so you need less extraction and moisture.
