Choose the right growth and flowering grow light for growing your favorite plants indoors

If you choose to grow plants indoors, there are several factors you will want to take into account. Of course, the type of medium (soil, coco or hydro) used and the irrigation system are very important, but the same goes for the lighting. Without optimal lighting, growing your plants indoors will not be very successful. Fortunately, there are now grow lights that are just as good as the sunlight outside. In this article, we will give you some tips for growing your favorite plants indoors and the use of grow lights for your plants.

Intensity of the light

Plants have specific light requirements during the growth and flowering period. If they do not get the right light, or too little light, or if the rest period is too short or too long, this has a direct impact on the growth and health of the plant. Fortunately, modern lighting offers the possibility to respond to this very precisely. By using TL or LED lighting, for example, it is not only possible to regulate the light intensity (number of watts) yourself, the light colour for growth and flowering can also be determined. In addition, it is important to take into account the distance from the lighting to the plants. In this respect too, the use of TL and LED lighting offers advantages over traditional HPS lamps, because they do not get as hot. This ensures that this lighting can be placed at a distance of approximately 10 to 15 centimetres above the plants. You should take into account that the lamp distance must be adjusted to the development of plants. During flowering, plants need more light than during growth. By reducing the lamp distance, the light intensity increases.

Day and night rhythm of plants

Most vegetables and plants that are grown are so-called "long-day plants". This means that they need between 14 and 18 hours of (sun)light. Plants also need a rest period, usually about 8 hours. Using a timer ensures that your plants get exactly the number of hours of light that they need.

Light color

Finally, there is the light colour. It is of course known that sunlight is the most ideal lighting for plants to grow and bloom under. However, LED and TL grow lights now offer light that comes quite close to this. With grow lights, more blue light is used and during the flowering phase more red light.
