More and more people choose to start building a grow box themselves. At first sight this is of course interesting, until the moment arrives when the HPS lamp has to be installed. The installation of such a lamp can be a considerable challenge, which is why people increasingly choose to look for interesting alternatives, but are there any?
400 Watt HPS is sufficient
At first glance, connecting an HPS lamp can indeed be quite a challenge, but in practice it is not always as scary as it first seems. The use of HPS is however simply recommended because it is simply a proven good light source. In addition, it is sufficient to use a 400 Watt HPS lamp in a grow box, while most vacuum cleaners have a consumption of around 2000 Watt. The placement of a 400 Watt HPS does not have to be as challenging as you might think at first glance.
Connecting a relay is essential
It is not a good idea to build a grow box without a relay. The reason for this is not hard to find. By placing a relay, you ensure that the switch block cannot seize up or burn out with all possible consequences. Now okay, it is of course a fact that connecting a relay is quite a task. In addition, all sorts of things can go wrong during the connection. It is therefore more interesting to choose to purchase a ready-made switch box. A relay is already connected to this switch block, so you simply have to plug in the lamp and start. Very simple! In addition, connecting the ballast is not as difficult as it first seems. From the VSA, a connection is made to the socket while the other simply goes to the lamp. Take a good look at the images on the VSA to find out which contact points should be connected where.
What alternatives are there?
When we look at the alternatives on the market for an HPS, we find that this can actually only be found in the form of the LED grow light. In principle, the use of so-called TL lamps would also be possible, but if you want to achieve the best possible results, you will be obliged to scrogging. This is necessary because TL lighting cannot radiate as deeply as HPS or an LED grow light. In addition, the evolution on the market does not stand still. On a regular basis, increasingly better performing LED lamps appear that are perfectly capable of competing with HPS lamps. You should take into account that an LED grow light is generally a lot cheaper. Most LED grow lights that can be found on the market today are equipped with built-in cooling. In addition, there are even some that have a built-in switch block on board. In addition, it is possible to set the light spectrum separately with some LEDs. This allows you, for example, to efficiently simulate a sunrise. In addition, research has shown that a cannabis plant, for example, produces significantly more terpenes and resin under LED, which means that LED cannabis can be considerably tastier and more potent compared to HPS cannabis.
