We've been receiving a lot of feedback lately about LED grow lights. This is mainly because more and more growers want to switch to LEDs due to their many advantages. However, many (beginner) growers worry that growing with LEDs is much more difficult due to all the new features and the way they work. We can tell you that it's actually much easier with most LED grow lights. You don't need any extra accessories for installation. However, the controls can be complex. In any case, you don't have to be a pro grower to grow with LEDs!
The professional LED grow lights
There are some LED grow lights whose operation is indeed somewhat more complex than usual. Therefore, it's recommended that you have some growing experience to understand how these lights work.
Spectrabox Gold
The Spectrabox Gold, for example, has two controllers that allow you to set the spectrum yourself. To do this correctly, you need to understand the different phases of the growing cycle and the LED colors required for each phase. Initially, you might set only the growth LEDs at 30%. For the first three weeks, you increase this to 100%, then gradually add more red flowering LEDs. Be sure to carefully read the Spectrabox manual for this.
4twenty Sunfactor
The 4Twenty Sunfactor lamps are perhaps a bit more complex than the Spectrabox Gold. The Sunfactor lamp is fully adjustable with a remote control. The large LED in the center can be turned off, as can the smaller LEDs on the outside. With these lamps, too, you can fully customize the spectrum.
The LED grow lights for beginners:
Fortunately, there are many more LED grow lights that offer simple controls or just a single spectrum. The LED grow lights below are therefore the most suitable for the beginning LED grower.
- Growspots: one spectrum without controls.
- UFO: One spectrum without control.
- Spectrabox Pro: easily switch between growth and flowering with a switch.
- Growbars: one spectrum without controls.
Why are LED grow lights also suitable for beginners?
Admittedly, it takes some getting used to when you start growing with LED lights. However, there are many more advantages besides setting up and operating the light. Beginning growers, of course, benefit just as much. For example, the LED grow light barely gets warm. This also means less ventilation is required. The biggest advantage is, of course, the energy savings; on average, you'll use half the electricity when you switch. Another major advantage for beginners is that LED doesn't require as many accessories as HPS lights. For example, there are no switch boxes, ballasts, or reflectors required. With an LED grow light, everything is integrated, making the purchase process much easier for the grower and, all things considered, more cost-effective!
