The court in Amsterdam has decided that the entrepreneur who sued Philips in the cannabis lamp case must pay 15 million euros to Philips Lighting.
The entrepreneur had been supplying grow lights and switching equipment from Philips to the cannabis industry for several years. Philips ultimately decided to stop supplying him, as they wanted nothing to do with cannabis cultivation. The entrepreneur subsequently claimed damages from Philips, claiming that Philips was still supplying lighting to the cannabis industry through other companies.
In 2013, the two parties reached an agreement to avoid a lawsuit. This allowed the entrepreneur to obtain relief for his cannabis cultivation. However, the agreement also prohibited him from discussing Philips or suing the company.
However, the man didn't keep his word and stated in the press that he believed Philips wasn't honoring the agreement. Philips subsequently demanded one hundred thousand euros from the man, because he had violated the agreement.
The pronunciation
Ultimately, the Amsterdam court ruled in Philips' favor, as the entrepreneur had violated 146 agreements between him and Philips. Therefore, the court ordered the man to pay a €15 million fine.
