The court in Amsterdam has decided that the entrepreneur who sued Philips in the cannabis lamp case must pay 15 million euros to Philips Lighting.
The entrepreneur had been supplying grow lights and switching equipment from Philips to the cannabis industry for a number of years. Philips eventually decided to stop supplying the entrepreneur, because Philips did not want to have anything to do with cannabis cultivation. The entrepreneur then claimed compensation from Philips, because the entrepreneur claimed that Philips was still supplying lighting to the cannabis industry, via other entrepreneurs.
Agreement
In 2013, both made an agreement to avoid a lawsuit. As a result, the entrepreneur managed to get relief for the cannabis cultivation. In addition, the man was no longer allowed to talk about Philips, and was also no longer allowed to sue the company.
However, the man did not keep his word and stated in the press that he thought Philips was not adhering to the agreement. Philips then demanded one hundred thousand euros from the man, because he had violated the agreement.
The pronunciation
Ultimately, the court in Amsterdam ruled in Philips' favor, as the entrepreneur had violated 146 agreements between him and Philips. That is why the court demands that the man pay a fine of 15 million euros.
